Tell us about your career at JMC Aviation so far

I started working at JMC Aviation back in February 2022 as a Trainee Recruitment Consultant. Growing up having a parent working in the aviation industry, aviation has always been of interest and from my first day at JMC Aviation I was instantly hooked! After a year working as a Trainee Recruitment Consultant, I was promoted to Recruitment consultant and just over a year after, I have now retained the position as Senior Recruitment consultant.

What does a typical day look like for you as a contract recruiter?

My typical day consists of reading through my emails first thing in the morning to catch up with anything that has been sent overnight. Aviation is a 24/7 365 industry so often customer and contractor requests will come in out of our normal office hours. First priority is always to check any requests and action them to ensure things continue to move smoothly. I then plan my day ahead to make sure I complete any tasks that need carrying out.

This could include anything from liaising with contractors regarding travel to and from their contract to having meetings with clients to arranging document packs to be submitted to the client. In addition to this, I spend time contacting applicants to discuss contracts that JMC Aviation are recruiting for and offering support to help them secure their next role.

What do you enjoy most about your role as a recruiter?

No two days are the same so it’s nice to have a role with lots of variety!

I also love speaking with contractors – I’m a bit of a plane nerd! So speaking to contractors about their career background and experiences is always interesting to me and makes my part in their career journey feel worthwhile and fulfilling.

Do you have any tips for contractors or candidates looking for their next contract?

Write as much information as you can on your CV, especially details about tasks carried out on the aircraft at each employment (the more information the better!)

If you ever finish a contract, always ask (when possible) the employer/ MRO for a letter of recommendation. When submitting CV’s to clients, having these is an added bonus and could give you the competitive advantage!
