The Lead Avionics Technician plays a critical leadership role within our FAA Part 145 Repair Station. This position combines advanced avionics expertise with supervisory responsibilities, ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of direct avionics experience, including experience with Gulfstream and Bombardier aircraft, and demonstrate leadership capabilities in mentoring and coordinating teams.
Duties
- Lead and oversee the avionics team to ensure timely and efficient completion of assigned tasks in compliance with FAA regulations, manufacturer specifications, and company procedures.
- Act as the primary point of contact between the avionics team and the Avionics Manager or Maintenance Manager, ensuring clear communication of project goals, timelines, and updates.
- Troubleshoot, repair, test, remove, and install avionics and instrument systems, leveraging advanced technical skills to resolve complex issues.
- Perform as an Authorized Inspector, conducting in-process and final inspections, and approve return-to-service work as required.
- Ensure accurate documentation of completed work, including maintenance logs, parts installation, and compliance with approved data.
- Mentor and train junior technicians, providing on-the-job training (OJT) and fostering skill development across the team.
- Coordinate with other departments to manage workflow, prioritize tasks, and meet return-to-service deadlines.
- Maintain avionics test equipment and oversee team compliance with workspace organization and safety standards.
- Attend factory and company technical training and support team members in maintaining their technical proficiencies.
- Provide day-to-day supervision and guidance to the avionics team, ensuring adherence to best practices and high-quality standards.
- Identify and address team challenges, removing obstacles that may impact productivity or morale.
- Monitor team performance, providing feedback and coaching to promote continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and foster a culture of safety, accountability, and collaboration.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 3 years of avionics experience in a Part 145 environment, with Part 135 experience preferred.
- Leadership experience, such as mentoring or supervising a team, required.
- Advanced hands-on experience with Gulfstream and Bombardier aircraft required.
- In-depth knowledge of maintenance reference materials, including maintenance manuals, illustrated parts catalogs, and component manuals.
- Proficiency with CMP and CAMP maintenance tracking programs preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to obtain an FAA Repairman Certificate; A&P License is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail.
